Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the ‘Sudarshan Setu,’ India’s longest cable-stayed bridge, in Gujarat’s Dwarka today, marking a significant milestone in the state’s infrastructure development. The bridge, connecting Okha to Beyt Dwarka island, is not merely a physical connection but a symbol of progress and connectivity envisioned by PM Modi himself. This architectural marvel, constructed at a cost of ₹979 crore, reflects India’s strides in engineering excellence.
The Sudarshan Setu spans an impressive 2.3 kilometers and boasts a width of 27.20 meters, featuring 2.50-meter-wide footpaths on either side, making room for four lanes of traffic. What distinguishes this bridge is its unique design elements, incorporating verses from the Bhagavad Gita and depictions of Lord Krishna on its footpaths, paying homage to the rich cultural heritage of the region.
Formerly known as the ‘Signature Bridge,’ the structure has been rechristened as ‘Sudarshan Setu‘ or Sudarshan Bridge, symbolizing clarity and vision in its purpose. Beyt Dwarka, situated near Okha port, holds historical significance, being approximately 30 km from Dwarka town, renowned for the Dwarkadhish temple, a revered site for devotees of Lord Krishna.
Expressing his elation, Prime Minister Modi hailed the Sudarshan Setu as not just a physical link but a testament to the nation’s progress and unity. Ahead of the inauguration ceremony, he offered prayers at the Dwarkadhish temple, underscoring the spiritual essence intertwined with the region’s cultural tapestry.
Following the inauguration, PM Modi is scheduled to virtually inaugurate Gujarat’s first All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Rajkot, alongside four other AIIMS in Andhra Pradesh, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal. These state-of-the-art healthcare facilities, established at a cumulative cost of ₹6,300 crore, signify the government’s commitment to bolstering the healthcare infrastructure nationwide, ensuring accessible and quality medical services for all.
Moreover, Prime Minister Modi is set to partake in a grand roadshow in the city later in the evening, engaging with the public and reiterating the government’s dedication to inclusive development and grassroots engagement.
In conclusion, the inauguration of the Sudarshan Setu and the AIIMS facilities in Gujarat underscore the government’s relentless pursuit of progress and development across all sectors, from infrastructure to healthcare, ultimately aiming to uplift the lives of every citizen.
